I have a 87 Honda Trx 125 that belongs to my oldest daughter. It runs like a great, however the front brakes and cables are shot. Two Honda dealers and looking online to find replace me cables with the splinter has turned up nothing. I am thinking about putting brake system off of a Honda TRX 250ex on it. I understand that I would have to get the enter system including the spindals. My question is does anyone know how much motification that I would have to do to get the spindals on the TRX 125. Before I drop a couple of hunderd dollars on the EX brake system.

Yes you would need the spindles and probably have to fabricate new ball joint mounting as well as a host of other steering geometry parts. For one thing the 250EX has hyralic front brakes so you basically need the entire hydralic system, not to mention the spindles, calipers, discs and I highly doubt without a bunch of modification it won't be easy getting the front suspension to attach to the EX spindles because the EX uses an independent double A arm type suspension where as the old TRX125 is kind of a swing arm type.
Besides your "Honda dealers" must not be very good. The brake shoes and cables are still availble (cables are about $20 each, and the shoes are also about $20 each)

You can also check with motion pro for the cables...in most cases motion pro is a lot cheaper than stock and a lot better cable.
look for any atv that has a-arms with the same bolt pattern usually you can buy a-arms spindles and all on ebay fairly inexpensively.

The 1987 TRX125 doesn't have a-arms so just buying a-arms off ebay won't work with out fabrication to the frame of the TRX125 to even make them bolt on. Like I said the spindles won't bolt on because the trx125 doesn't have anywhere to mount them. It just has a straight axle with steering knuckels and king pins.

youre right mis spoke on that one the 87 came with a straight shaft....brackets for a-arms would have to be fabricated.

I would love to know where to get brake cables. I have looked at dozens of sites for front (all three cables), and especially the foot brake cable and I haven't found anyone that has one or that can get one. Those items have been discontinued as far as OEM. I haven't found an aftermarket one for specifically the 87 trx. What I don't know is if other cables from different years will work. Will cables from other years work, how about other models (assuming they had cables and not hydraulics)? Can I use a cable for the 200 or the ATC125 or other models? Motion Pro only had the choke and rear handle brake cables for the 87 trx.
Thanks for any help

Try Bike bandit otherwise Motion Pro can make you what ever you need. Call them up and ask them what they can do. I have used their custom cable service a few times for projects that OEM cables will not work.

I have tried Bike Bandit with no luck. I have found that some of the online companies don't let you know that some parts aren't available until you have placed the order and it goes through their system. Luckily they didn't charge my card and let me know usually the next business day that the item can't be found. Some companies have updated part finders and some don't (updated meaning what is available and what isn't).
I will contact Motion Pro about custom cables. They might be able to tell me if they have any in-stock cables that would work from different models or different years.
Thanks for the advise. I might just get my 125 going and stopping.

Yeah Motion Pro is pretty good about finding solutions to problems with cables and routing. They should either have something in stock OR guide you in getting a custom cable made for your application.
