94 Honda FOURTRAX transmisson problems

I have 94 Honda FOURTRAX. Bought it new and has always had an adult rider. For the last couple of years my first shift into a forward gear has been hard during my first run thru the gears each time I ride. Recently it has gotten worse and I'm experiencing the hard shifts more frequently. The ATV has always been great, have not put a wrench on the engine since purchased in 94, just changed the oil and filter regularly. Would appreciate any suggestions.
