When I press the start button, I hear a click on the solenoid. Changed the battery, still had the "click". Changed the solenoid. Still the "click" at the new solenoid. Tried the jumper on the solenoid posts. No sparks and still no starter action. So am I to the point that the starter has gone out? I can hold the start button and pull the recoil start rope out a little and it will fire off like normal. It is like the starter needs a little help in getting going. Can the starter be rebuilt or am I looking at a new one? Thanks.

I would first start with a fully charged battery. Then make sure the connections at the battery and starter are clean and tight. If the starter action is still weak then the brushes may be worn or the armature is bad. The brushes are the cheapest fix. If the armature is bad you will probably be better off replacing the starter.

before you go off tearing the starter apart check the ground wires, make sure where it grounds to the engine or frame that its tight and clean. a bad ground would cause a battery to weaken, also. are the fuses and wires going from the switch good?

Just an update. I appreciate everyone's suggestions. All fuses and wires are tight. I am currently waiting on new starter to arrive in next several days. Will update repair and solution.

After replacing the battery and solenoid without solving the problem, a new starter was the solution. It now starts like it should.
While I had it apart, I removed the carburetor since it was easy to get to. I took it apart and soaked it in cleaner, since it would not idle before. I re-installed the carb, taking note to replace all the tubes connected to the carb correctly (numbered when removed). The breather box had some oil in the bottom of it, blowback I am wondering? Well, the bike still will not idle, even with adjustments to the idle screw. BTW, the valves have never been adjusted, and the engine has never idled since it was bought new. Is the valve adjustment easy to do with instructions in hand?
