I just got a 2001 Kodiak 400 4x4 and am wondering what it's supposed to sound or feel like when I accelerate.  I expected to notice some shifting of gears, but I just keep accelerating with no RPM adjustments. I know the linkage is a little loose so it's hard to tell if I'm in high or low sometimes.  Anything to help me not ruin my new machine would be great!  Thanks.

is it completely automatic? i've rode a couple and i felt nothing underneith me. as long as it's taking you up hills and pulling you without bogging down. i'd get that linkage fixed soon.
