my 125 yamaha atv idles fine but dies when given gas

please help my daughters 125 four wheeler idles and cranks fine but when you give it gas it dies, i can hold my hand over the air inlet tube and it will rev up but when i remove it it dies any suggestions on what might be wrong

I would start by cleaning the carb and fuel shutoff filter. It's not getting enough fuel when pressing the throttle to make it run.
