i just bought this quad. the guy said it set in a garage for awhile, about a year and a half. when i went to look at it, it idled but it was choppy. i cleaned the carb and same thing, maybe a bit worse now. it has a new air filter too. before i cleaned the carb it would run for the most part but the choke had to be all the way out, the whole time. they put a radiator hose between the carb and head, would this make any difference? i'm buying a new piece tuesday, i thought it might be sucking in air thru that. some body got any idea's on this? please help.

Check your Coil lines, look for a short or broken wire in your harnnes or a bad ground to the coil. I just went through total Hell taking my carb off 100 times. I had a half broken ground wire to my coil that cause weak spark and all the symptoms you described. The weak spark made the plug appear to be fouling from a rich air fuel mixture. It had all the symptoms of a bad carb but it wasn't! Save yourself a huge amount of headaches. Just because yopu have spark does not mean there is a bad ground or broken wire causing the problem.

i'm going to look into this tonight. i put that new carb sleeve on and the same thing is going on. like yours, mine blows black smoke telling me too much fuel and my plug looks wet and black. i've had this thing a month now and haven't been able to ride it, that sucks. plus i've got about 400 in parts now. batmmaann i hope this works. where are these wires i need to inspect?
