I have a 84 klt 200 with no spark.  It was running great, I rode it turned it off and a few days later...nothing.  I replaced the plug with a new one and I still get no spark.  The coil (Yellow and red wire) is supplying the coil with 12v continuously.  The black wire going into the coil has almost no voltage only when cranking the engine.  If i place a volt meeter on the yellow/red wire and connect it to the coil and crank the engine over i get about 3 volts going into the coil.  I am not sure how to trouble shoot to determine if the coil is the problem or the pulsing coil.  Anyone have any suggestions?

using an ohm meter place one lead into the spark plug cap, and the other on the wires coming out of the coil.

you should get between 13 and 15 ohms on both wires.

which coil terminal? there are 2, and did you mean the wires going into the coil?  The coil has 2 wires coming in from the CDI box and 1 spark plug with coming out.  If I do not get any ohm, what does that mean?

Thanks!

It is usually the black terminal. You can take off the coil to do an ohm test. Insert one of your tester leads on the coil terminal and the other tester lead in the spark plug lead this will give you the coil's secondary resistance.

You can also test the coil's primary resistance. Take one of the tester leads and place on the terminal and place the other tester lead on the other terminal.

What ohm setting are you using?

what setting should I use?  I have never tested ohms before but I have a tester.

Primary resistance R X 1
Secondary resistance R X K (R X 1,000 ohms)

what does R and K stand for? is R = 1 ohm and R and K together 1000 ohms then?

I am getting .06 volts from the pick up coil's red wire (from cdi to pick up).  I get .04 volts from the pick up to the CDI (green wire).  I have a constant 12v from the CDI to the ignition coil (yellow/red wire), and I have a constant 10.39 volts from the CDI to the ignition coil (black wire).  When I crank the motor the volts drop significantly on the black wire but never increase.  I am not getting a spark from the spark plug at all.

Some multimeters have measurements that are R X 1, R X 10 and so on. The K=1,000 ohms. If the lowest ohm setting on your multimeter is 200 then measure the primary resistance of the coil with it. I have tried setting multimeter to 2,000 Ohms to take secondary resistance on coil but got nothing, I then tried it at 20K setting on multimeter and got the correct reading. For instance if you get 8 Ohms on the 20K setting, the value will be 8,000 Ohms.

I hope this helps you, let us know what resistance values you got on your coil.

it should read around 14.5  on your ohm meter

if not then your coil is bad.
