My 2008 yamaha rhino 450 caught on fire while ride for about five minute. The cover over the motor started melting and flame up. MY wife and daugther got out save. They couldnt save the rhino. My wife said the flames started coming up her right arm when she first noticed. By the time she stopped the motor cover was melted an flaming. Not sure what cause it but the head on the motor is melted and the case were you can see the vavle springs an into the gear case the carb is melted the exhaust melted off it had to be really hot to melt the motor like it did

My 2007 Yamaha Rhino 450 also caught on fire last week (10/16/2009). I was out in the Camp Verde Mtns with my husband riding his Rhino ahead of me. The dirt road was well kept, fairly even and I was driving for about 5-7 minutes at approx. 25 MPH, with almost a full tank of gas. I noticed a bad plastic burning smell. I looked out to the right side and in my peripheral vision I saw a tall skinny flame coming out right behind the passenger seat between the passenger seat and the dump bed but closer to the middle area. I turned my head all of the way and in that time the entire back of my Rhino right between the bucket seats and the dump bed was an entire wall of fire 3-4 feet high! I had no time to brake or anything so I swerved a bit to the right to get away from a large tree, turned off the motor, grabbed my keys and fell out to get away...everything made of aluminum melted completely. The motor (like yours) was melted and the entire thing burned down entirely to its frame, nothing else left...

My 2009 rhino has been cleaned (washed) after each and every use. I have noticed excessive grass and trash buildup between the skid plate and the motor following each time that I drive my rhino.
This week, after using my rhino to drag my food plots (approx. 2 hours of usage), my bike caught fire and burned to the ground within minutes. The fire started right behind the cab and underneath the bed. It was so hot so quick, that I could not save anything.
Has anyone had similiar problems???Yamaha says that they have not had a problem with fires!
