1999 BearTracker Starting Issue

I just bought a 1999 BearTracker and had to clean out the carb as the needle would not seal and was allowing gas to flow nonstop. Now, I can not get the bike to run unless I partially block the air intake. This causes it to idle extremely high though. Anyone have any idea where to start to figure out this problem?

did you remove the fuel/air mixture screw? or remove the cover from the diaphram on the top?
inspect the diaphram make sure it isn't torn or folded where it leaks air.
if no problems with the diaphram then mostly likely you are looking the fuel mixture being too lean.
inspect the intake boot for cracks or holes.
everything fine there? try turning the fuel/air screw to the left 1/4 - 1/2 turn.
but mark where the screw was originally and keep up with how many 1/4 turns you make.
Keep it RUBBER SIDE DOWN!!
