Hi All -

Had the battery replaced and since then the digital instrument cluster has not worked. Checked all fuses, diodes, checked that voltage was on both sides of fuses, checked harness for rubs, checked grounds and power at cluster and cdi, ok!

What happens is when the ignition switch is in the run position the red back-lighting comes on the cluster but nothing else. It use to show shift position and 00 MPH, battery voltage, fuel, and time. Now it does nothing!

Pushed the reset button nothing! Disconnected the battery and let sit to try and reset the cluster reconnected nothing!

Any ideas how to get the digital cluster to display again!

ATV runs fine and everything else works! Just no indications of rpm/mph fuel oil time or anything! Just a blank red LCD screen!

Any magic rest tool or plug?

Any help would be appreciated.

Ok everyone!

I have figured this one out! The problem is in the Elastomeric connector that connect the PC and Glass LCD display together. I took the cluster apart to the PC board did the usually cleaning of contacts etc. When I powered up the board on the quad it was still blank! By pinching the PC and the glass LCD it started to work as soon as I let go it stopped. Further, examination of the Elastomeric connect under a 100x microscope show significant compression of the Elastomeric foam enough to distort the connection and make the display erratic.

By the way I also check the on-board processor a MC68HC908LJ24 with internal ram and plenty of IO's. The Tektronics processor analyser showed all inputs and outputs working to include the double clocking. All CPU levels where within specification. Check this with the quad on blocks and running. All sensors where reporting signals. Output of the on-board LCD driver is working to the PC board connector just not too the LCD screen.

I have reported my finding to Medallion Instrument corporation maker of the cluster for Arctic Cat. I am hoping for a replacement Elastomeric connector.

Oh! thanks for all the ideas! I did tried the master reset early on (disconnect both battery leads and short battery leads together discharges any capacitive charge).

So to wrap this up! Fully digital instrument cluster talks directly to the quads sensors (ie oil PSI, gear position, voltage, temperature, speed, tach, fuel and etc.) Problematic Elastomeric connector is the weak link in the chain! Dampness and cold weather (freezing) does not help the matter. By the way for those of you that have this issue there is a dual power supply one for power on and one for keep alive. This means there is a battery drain in storage keep a charger during pro-long storage.

I'm glad you did this research I would have never figured that out. I too recently replaced my battery and the same thing happened to my cluster following battery drain of the new battery.I have a 2007 700 efi and to the tee that was the same problem. Did you have any luck with Medallion Instrument Corp.? If you could let me know how you fixed it....

Thanks,
Phil
