I've got a 2006 polaris 700 efi sportsman. I bought it new. at 289 miles the drive belt broke. $289.00 later i chalked it up to a belt defect. At 604 mile anothe rone broke. the dealer was less than helpful, except for the cash register part. Yhis time I bought the belt , and went to a certified master mech. where I work.At a Toyota store. we/he ripped into it and found nothing wrong, as in no apparent cause. yet I'm on belt three with 608 miles. 1st question: does any one know of a problem existing with this, or am i the only one? #2 is it possible to get a better belt? ie high performance/racing, etc.?

I would contact the belt manufacturer and show the rep the damaged belt and ask what happened. In all likelyhood its an alignment problem or a damaged clutch surface. I assume your not abusing the machine or running the machine in the wrong gear for the speed.

Also I was reading that if you have a belt failure you have to remove and thuroughly clean the intake and exhaust tubes that cool the belt housing. If not properly cleaned you will recontamintate the new belt.
