Build date 07/25/2008 = 2009 model year?

I recently purchased a new Polaris 800 touring. The build date is July 25 2008 and was told its a 2009 model. I know with cars its the 10th month of any year then it becomes the following model year. I fix cars for a living and its always been like that. Is my new quad actually a 2009 model?
