sounds like the regulator is shot. check output to battery with digital voltmeter.shouldnt be any more than about 14.8 volts at idle.it maybe going up to 18 volts or so. this is typical of these bikes here in newzealand anyway. this might be why your old battery died ,from severe overcharging. there is an upgrade kit avaliable through can-am to sort this problem.
