Well now that I have it running, I have a GY6 with the forward and reverse external gearbox. In forward gear it kicks or jumps, I can watch the lever on top of the gearbox move even with the big spring trying to hold it back. In reverse it all works fine. Any thoughts???

I did find this article on my gearbox http://www.buggydepot.com/buggy-tech-center/150cc/Yerf-Dog-Blade-GY6-Buggies-Parts/7/

I had that problem too on my 150cc GY6.  Eventually it got so bad it would pop out of gear going up a hill.  I noticed if I held my foot on the shift lever forcing it to the most forward position within the shift detent it got much better.

I then found the same problem listed in the buggy depot archives, along with a solution by pghruby at buggydepot.com.

I adjusted the shift lever per pghruby's instructions and it has worked fine ever since (more than 1 year now).

I must say you do a good job digging up info using search engines. I'm impressed.
