2003 400ex the starter silenord clicks but the bike never turns over

my 400ex has 11.9v in the battery i bushed the starter button and all it does is click wont turn over so i took the start button apart and cleaned it then tryed it agen still just a click so i took a screw driver and jumped the starter silenoid and the bike fired right up i dont know what to do any help would be great ive been working on it for almost a month now and just want to go to the dunes thanks

Sounds like the solenoid is not working properly. Take a meter and check for voltage coming out of the solenoid to the starter when you push the starter button. Sounds like the relay is pulling in but the solenoid is not closing to previde power to the starter. Very easy to check with a meter or a test light.
With meter
connect black to ground on battery, connect red to output side of solenoid (wire going to starter), hit starter button
With test light
connect clip to battery ground, hold test light on output of solenoid, hit starter button, if it lights up solenoid is closing.

it is deffinetly the solenoid. if you are able to jump the poles and have it fire then a. check all wires running from the start/kill switch to make sure they arent melted or anythin. or b. replace the solenoid.
