85 honda fortrax 250 timing?

hey guys i need help with geting the timing chain and the marks right. there seems to be 2 marks on ech side of the cam gear that i try to line up with the timing mark on the fly wheel. but no matter with way i go with the chain the marks wont line up perfictly. so should the marks be a touch off? if so witch way?
please help guys thanks. also i did search for this but couldn't find any thing.

there is a round dot on the cam gear it lines up with the mark on the top of the rocker cover strait up and down.make sure eng. is on comp.stroke ,rocker arms lose.this is when ever thing lines up .with cdi egnition if it isnt right it will not run.
