86 Honta TRX200 stator question

This is a new post on an older problem, but more specific. My 86 TRX200sx as mentioned before has no spark and think it just might be the stator. Is there a way to test the stator before I tear into the motor? Don't want more aggrivation than necessary. Tnx in advance
