Howdy y'all, got a 2004 Honda Recon ES and take it riding about 3-4 times a year. After the 2nd or 3rd time on the first time of riding it in the year it seems like the battery just craps out. I've had this problem continuously since then. Have replaced twice due to dead cell. During off season the recon stays on a trickle charger in the garage. If you have any suggestions or ideas on my problem or if you had the same problem and know how to fix this, please share your information. Thanks.

the trickle charger may be the culprit.

if you charge for long periods of time you run the risk of evaporating the acid.

your best bet is to leave the battery alone until just before you get ready to ride, if it's dead then charge it a little

while batteries don't like to sit for extended periods without use. the charger is most likely burning them up.

normally a good hour will replenish it, depending on how dead the battery is.
still turnsover but turns slow, a half hour may be enough. but also if it is possible on your battery check to be sure that the acid in the battery hasn't dissipated as well.
as charging a battery without acid will burn it up as well.
