On April 29th 2008 I bought a Can Am 650 Outlander max xt. Before I could even load it in my truck, the button that resets my trip time and odometer did not work! I said that was no big deal. They ordered the part and fixed it. During the first week of August I had to take my quad back to the shop to have the rocker arms replaced. At this tiime my quad only had 22 hrs on it! So the guys at the shop appologized and fixed it again, but not for long.
On Sept. 4th I was out riding and everthing was going fine, then when I hit the throttle my quad suddenly started bogging down and backfiring. This time the guys at the shop couldn't find anything wrong with it so I took it out again and same thing happened. This time they replaced the air filtre becausee it was dirty, it didn't help. My next trip out I noticed that there was lots of oil in my air box so this time they replaced an oil sending unit. That fixed my oil problem, but my quad was still losing power and backfiring. After my sixth time back to the shop they finally sent a mechanic out for a ride with me and replaced my fuel pump.
Now my quad was running fine, but over that period of time here is what they replaced: 2 air filters, spark plugs, a fuel filter, an oil sending unit, the computer and a fuel pump.
Six weeks later it started acting up again. Now the guys at the shop were totally stunned. They didn't know what to say, or what to look for. So they phoned Can Am head office and spoke with the technissions there. For the next two weeks they were playing around with the transmission and the clutch, once again it didn't help and I wasn't surprised. So they replaced another fuel pump and now it's running fine again but I've only had out about four times and now I'm on my extended warranty.
When I last talked to the mechanics they figured that the warranty work done on my quad was at least $5000.00. I have contacted Can Am head office several times and all they do is appologize. They are not willing to replace it or give me a refund. I told them that my extended warranty was for three more years and I'll bet it costs them another $5000.00, they didn't care.
I have probably put on 500-600 kms just test driving my quad after they clain to fix it. and now I'm finding out that the frames are easily bent or twisted or punctured. So now I'm checking out skid plates, hopefully that will help a little ***
I am extremely choked with my quad and the poor customer support. I would not recomend Can Am to anybody and will never, ever buy another one! When I do dicide to buy another quad I think I will buy a Polaaris. That's what all my friends have and they love them.
To all you Can Am owners out there, I hope your quad is better than mine.
