yfz carb trouble---high idle

i have a 2004 yfz 450. when i got it it ran fine. now when i first start it, it will idle fine but as soon as i touch the throttle it will rev really high. then as soon as i put it in gear and move a little bit and pull the clutch back in it idles fine until i touch the gas and it backfires really loud when i turn it off. all i did was put a k&n filter in it. i put a 48 piolt jet, 162 main, 5th clip on the needle and have the pilot screw out 2 turns. could it be because i live in minnesota in the cold or what. suggestions please.

idling high and cutting out, are a sign that it is too lean.
i would suggest turning the fuel/air mixture screw to the left 1/4-1/2 turn.
if it doesn't get better i would check the timing.
Keep it RUBBER SIDE DOWN!!

so i tried that and it didn't work. the timing is fine. so i started from the begining i set eveything back to factory specs in the carb to start over but left the k&n in and there was no more back fire. now there is no more high idle when you tap the throttle but it is puffing out of the tail pipe when you let off the gas when riding. tried a bigger main and it went back to the high idle. put stock main back in and tried a bigger piolt and went back to high idle also.
