i have a 1987 lt-4wd suzuki and will not start

it will start but when you give it gas it will die an will not start back. i put new ring in it and rode it for about 6 months and it did that. backfires through exhaust.

it could be that the fuel/air mixture is off.
pull your spark plug and see what color the element is.
tan or creamy coffee color is good, white or grey is too lean, black or brown is too rich.
if you plug looks good, then i would look at the timing.
Keep it RUBBER SIDE DOWN!!
