I have an 03 traxter with a dead computer. I am reluctant to replace (900$) without knowing the cause of failure. I was having starting problems when it died. Was it the computer causing starting problems or vice versa? Anyway- I have consider eliminating the ignition control elements from the computer (basically hot wire) and get the engine running. Anyone with experience doing this? Any hints on how to get the timing signal from the engine rotation and trigger an external "Coil"? I have the electrical schematic, but never worked with a CDI ignition or similar. It would seem that this is done for race engines, why not a workhorse? Of course then I need to deal with lights, shifting (electrically control hydraulics) etc. but that is a pretty low-end use of an expensive controller.
I would also entertain buying a used computer (unable to find one so far) or part the whole thing out if there were interest.
Thanks

I have a 2000 Traxter with the same problem, I think. How did you figure out that the computer was bad? I have a direct short and have unplugged all coils but still have a short until I unplug the ecm. Do you know of any solutions? Thanks
