I have a 99 sportsman 500 that I replaced the Stator on. Since replacing the stator I am still not getting a complete spark. When you first hit the starter button it will spark quick then it doesn't spark at all.

Does anyone know what the clearance is for the trigger coil. I had someone tell me .100 but that seams a long way away.

Also I have checked the ohms and this is what I am getting at the wires from the stator.

Exitor coil
Between the red and the green wire - 4.4 ohms
Between the black/red and the green - 431 ohms

Trigger coil
Between white and the white/red - 97 ohms

Ignition Coil
Primary - .8 ohms
Secondary - 11.68 ohms

I have pulled the CDI box off, can anyone tell me if I can take just the box into get it checked or does it have to be on the quad. I have tried to find the ohm readings for this but my service manual doesn't show them and I can't find anything online.

I am pulling my hair out on this one. I am very mechanically inclined but I am reaching a point of severe frustration. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Update: I replaced the CDI box, coil and plug wire. Finally the quad came to life   . This has been a huge learning experience. I am not sure the stator was bad after all. The manual I had was not very helpful to diagnosing electrical problems. I set the trigger coil to the thickness of a folded over business card.  If you have to do this and can't get it close enough, elongate the holes on the bracket with a rat tail file.  This should help get the trigger coil closer to the flywheel.

I did learn from a few good mechanics to make sure the battery is unhooked to prevent any type of surges to the electrical system further causing problems to CDI or other electronics. Even if your just unplugging the connections   .

All in all not a bad job just very frustrating not being able to test the CDI, and having to just throw parts at it   .  There is apparently a process in the factory manual for testing certain items I just didn't have access to the manual.  I have a clymer manual and its great for most stuff.  Now back to snow removal and hunting!!!!!!!!
