My 2005 z400 has some sort of grinding happening just about half way through each gear. Its in every gear, even neutral. Im not sure what it is though. No power is lost anywhere in the quad and it is running like a brand new one. Its just loud and sounds like it could be messing something up. any ideas?

I really don't know....maybe you have a lack of oil in it? Get your local dealer or a repair shop to check it out if you aren't sure about it.

my guess would be change the oil, if its still doing it after then your either not pulling the clutch enough when shifting or your clutch is screwed up, i would check the cable, make sure its tight and in place on the case. thats all i could think that would be wrong with it.

could be a worn out synchronizer in the gear chain, or it could be the crank balancer.
or it could be as simple as a presure plate bolt has backed out and hits the case on the inside.
point is you wont have a clue until you pull the cover off.
or take it to an atv repairman.
Keep it RUBBER SIDE DOWN!!

Timing chain slack. Check your timing chain. If it is bad look into the DRZ kit. It has a did timing chain that will not stretch as bad as the factory. Advantage cyle is where you get it, and Paul is awesome to deal with. Good luck.
