I have a 98 suzuki ltf500.  The 3 black wires that connect the stator to the regulator get very hot.  They melted the plug that connects them to the regulator. The other colored wires from the stator seem to be OK.  The regulator has been replaced, but no luck.  The wires on the replacement plug get hot enough to melt the insulation on them.  Is this a stator problem?  Do I need to go through the whole electrical system to search for a worn wire grounding out on the frame? I would like to solve this myself, because shop time to track an electrical problem would probably cost more than the quad is worth!
