Hi all, i recently purchased a mini 90cc quad, now the person that had it before me has basically butchered the wiring saying he couldnt get a spark...
the quad was run with the flywheel (magnetic plate) cover off the quad... it has had a new cdi, a new coil, a new leag and a new plug.
I have tried to sort this wiring but this is my 1st quad and i dont really know much about them as yet...
i have managed to get a spark but i dont think it is strong enough to fire.
So my 1st question is does anyone have a wiring diagram for a 90cc engine.. i think its based on the honda c90 engine
And my 2nd question is... can anyone tell me how to test certain parts like the stator plate, the coil, the cdi etc etc and tell me what they should be reading??
I would greatly appreciate anyones help here, many thanks for reading this, andy

If you have spark from the coil at all, you should get fire. Sometimes a problem is multiple small problems. Check and make sure there is adequate fuel delivery, a clean gas inline filter, and air intake is clean. Also check and make sure the choke is functioning properly ( some are auto choke). If this is a chinese (Baja,Panter, etc) there is a fuse at the positive bat. wire that is hooked to the terminal. Normally they used a inline glass buss type fuse in a plastic case. Replace that fuse and holder w/ the blade style fuse and holder or bypass it w/ a butt connector. That worked on the ones my kids have.

Hi, thanks for the reply, upon further inspection i have noticed that the little sensor under the flywheel doesnt look too great, it seems like the little metal piece sticking out of it is worn... so im wondering if it is struggling to pick a signal up when kicking the engine over..... therefore no signal or intermittant signal = no spark??
Im trying to locate a new stator plate today somewere local but i am struggling, although i have been told the honda c90 will fit as it is the exact same engine to look at

That is possible. A Honda dealer mechanic could talk you through something like that. Just don't tell them it's not a Honda. Any way, use brake cleaner and some scotchbrite to clean the electrical side of that sensor and check it for any kind of adjustment. If it works like a small engine contact points, (w/ a magnet on the flywheel) then loosen the adjustable side, slide a matchbook between the contacts, and tighten it down. You can clean the flywheel magnet w/ sandpaper or emery cloth. Also check your coil wire to make sure there is not a bad spot in it or that the plug boot hasn't come loose, or that one of the smaller wires hasn't broken off.Happy hunting.
