I just took my 02 Quest 500 out of storage after about a year and a half. When moving the shifter, it would not engage into H, L or Reverse. We put it on the truck, where it was for about 4 hours on the road. Took it off the truck, it engaged in gear but was not able to shift gears, without shutting the motor off. We took the cover off and the CVT was corroded and wouldnt dissenguage all the way. After cleaning it with brake cleaner and a wire brush, the slides/guides would travel in and out without issue. We installed the CVT back on the crankshaft with the new belt. The belt seemed still to be tight, and the transmission would not free wheel even with the CVT totally disenguaged. WIth the transmission in nuetral we started the motor. Reving it shows that the CVT works properly, but still the transmission does not frewheel so it clunks into gear, and the brakes will not hold it, or it shuts the engine down.
There is something that is not allowing the belt to loosen enough for the transmission/ driven pulley to freewheel so you can shift the gears.
Does anyone have any ideas? Any help would be much appreciated.
