Hey everyone, I need some serious help here. I have a Polaris 2001 500 HO that will not stay charged. I have replaced the battery, and that hasn't worked. I will charge it over night, put it in my ATV, use the pull start to save juice and never use anything that uses power, yet it will be dead in a couple of hours. I have been told that it might be the voltage regulator, and if not, then it might be the alternator (I forgot the name of what it's called) Where is the voltage regulator located, and how do I test it, and can I change it out as well as the alternator or should I pay a professional to do it?
Also, how do you fix a pull start that won't grab? Can someone please help me out here, I know no one who can help me elsewhere. Thank you so very much.

The stator(a 4wheeler altenator) is behind the crankcase cover, and runs around the flywheel.A magnet on the flywheel spins and comes close to each "pack" on the stator and energizes it. It sounds like yours is gone.Apparently Polaris had some bad ones. One way to find out if thats it is to pull start it, and while it's running, pull your positive cable off the battery. If it dies, then your stator will have to be replaced. Also the pull start mechanism has sring loaded "teeth" that come out and grab the flywheel when you pull the cord. Take the cover off and inspect those teeth. If they're not broken off, lube them w/ wd40 or pb blaster and work them loose.Pull it a few times to make sure they come out when spinning.
