I have a 2002 Sportsman 700 that run good at low end and full throttle but starves for fuel at mid range.  If you choke it slightly it will pick right up.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

I have already pulled the carb for a good cleaning and changed the diaphram on the top of the carb.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Lenard-

I also have a Sportsman 700, year 2002.  It is acting exactly as you describe yours is.

Mine also backfires when slowing down, unless I have the choke pulled out about 3/8 inch.

My brother also has the identical unit.  His acted very similar when new.  The dealer made an adjustment to the carb to a needle adjuster that was covered by a brass cap.  This is on the bottom of the carb at an area that is almost impossible to see without a mirrow.

I am just in the process of working on mine now.  I removed the brass cap -it had a little hole in it- then removed the metering screw, and clean everything with carb cleaner.

I have not yet put it back together.

I did this with the carb still attached to the choke and throttle cable.

Did you remove those cables??

Anyway, I'll let you know how I make out!

Thanks...
