I have a TC185 Enduro bike. I've been dying to get this thing running, but it will NOT spark if there isn't a battery present or it's not connected to a battery charger of some sort. I tore it down on the "stator" side and found a real big copper armature, which appears to be the generator, electric start, and stator in one. The outside of it's cover had the points on it. Is this big thing what's wrong and is it expensive to replace? The kid I bought it from has told me it was a "voltage regulator" which I can't find. Only a CDI box under the seat.

I probably should add that the kid replaced a couple burnt wires, but they're connected correctly and nothing is crossed.

Also, the electric start didn't work last time I tried if it helps any.

Last but not least, I had it running on a battery charger at 40 amps, and the headlight was pulsating.

Seriously... what's going on here and how do I fix it?

Any help would be awesome...

the cdi box should also regulate voltage, butit sounds like you have either a bad cdi or a bad stator.

a battery charger won't sustain the bike so it makes sense that the headlight was pulsing while on it. the charger just doesn't put out enough juice.

Does make sense. Like I said, the bike's "stator" is a big copper armature on the crankshaft with a stationary cover (looks like a big electric motor) which appears to be the stator, generator, and electric start in one unit.

If that's junk I don't know where I'm going to find another one... There aren't any on eBay.
