if it were me i would go after the 450.
my personal choice would be the trx450r that honda makes, or the yfz450 from Yamaha. Suzuki makes a good machine, but with honda and Yamaha, pretty much if you change the oil and filter when you should you can give them to your grandchildren.
with the ltz450 and 400, most likely you are going to have to go with an aftermarket swing arm and axle housing. evey 450 and 400 ltz model i have seen needed new axle bearings frequently. now you can go with an aftermarket bearing company like " all balls" and get a better set of bearings, but even those don't last as long as they should given the design of the swingarm. but hey, that's my only complaint with the suzuki ltz400 and ltz450
Polaris... well we all know that Polaris is joke. (and those who don't yet, give them some time they'll figure it out, unless Polaris decides to make quality their first priority)
with Polaris you might as well be racing a riding mower

you like the honda 450 the best ay wolf1. My main concern is the top end work? I love speed and the 450 would be a my choice, but when i talked to the honda than the yamaha dealer they told me that the 450 class is all dirt bike motors. Which means according to them lots of top end work. Ive always been a honda fan, but in the 400 class they are far infearor to the others. my fear with the 450s is the motor work.Im far from a mechanic and dont want to have to pay an arm and leg every time i rebuild the top end, What do you think i should do. during that race i told you about, i killed the ltz in take off it wasnt until full bore i fell behind. Now i see what you mean about polaris, i just wish i knew ahead of time about them is all.

You are one of the many that have learned a hard lesson about Polaris.
most of my customers have sold their polaris machines and bought something better.
all machines after 2006 are 4 cycle now, and they are all pretty much the same. as you know with 4 cycle you just don't have the power that you had with the 2 cycle machines. so yeah i would go with higher cc's on a 4 cycle engine.
i haven't seen any real problems with the top end on the 450's in Yamaha, honda, suzuki and kawasaki.

I was just wondering looking for opionions, which is the best quality in the 450 class atv s. Which is the fastest. I know the kfx450 is the only with reverse. Any comments?

I just think the 04 wasnt worth as much. like the dealer took advantage of me alittle. but it is in awesome condition for an 04. Anyone (wolf1) help

i haven't seen a problem with the valves for the 2004.
like another machines they need to be adjusted after a good breakin period, but there's nothing i know of inherently wrong with it.
i think you'll like the yzf450.
but if they haven't replaced the exhaust you'll need to at least pull the baffle out of it and adjust the fuel mixture a little.

you adjust the fuel mixture by turning the fuel/air mixture screw on the bottom of the carb.
turning it to the left will increase the amount of fuel in the mixture.
turning it to the right will decrease the amount fuel in the mix.
you turn it either to the left or right depending on wether the engine is cutting out or bogging down.
if it is cutting out you would turn it to the left to increase the amount fuel.
if it is bogging down you would turn it to the right to decrease the amount of fuel in the mix.
do so in 1/4 turn increments and let it run for a minute ior two between turns.
be sur eto mark where it was setting originally and keep up weith how many 1/4 turns you make. just in case you need to get it back to where it was and turn it the other way.

This is what I did I went back to the dealer and threw away the 04 and Im gettina an 08. He gave me what I was asking for the outlaw. I put the rest on lay away sorta. I have 2 1/2 months to pay the remainder. The 1 I bought is still in the crate so that why they were willing to wait for it. I got the gray and red color. Again its the yfz450. I have no probelms waiting for it cause I just had a baby and alittle busy with that. So its cool. Thanks for the info. If you have any other tips throw them my way.

i think you'll be 100% happier with the yamaha than the polaris.
the main plus is that you don't have to spend wads of money on the yamaha to keep it running, and the yamaha as long as you take care of it won't leave you stranded on the trail.
The yzf450 is basically race ready in the crate. the thing to remember is that the carb will need to be adjusted to get that extra horsepower out of it. you'll need to either pull the baffle out of the exhaust or purchase a slip on muffler or complete exhuast system. take the airbox lid off of it or drill 12 1/2 inch holes in the lid. again i think you'll love the yzf450

Thanks Im looking forward to getting my new machine. Plus i bought the 12month warranty so Ill have 18 months total. I really like the design of yzf450. I just hate the whole break in period. But that will be great once thats over. I cant wait to rip it up. I will definately look at a new exhaust for it, maybe better tires, I know I like the razors. Just something harder.

the polaris are known for there problems, but it dosent mean it will happen to you just becarful because similar problems are likley. yamaha's are great machines they realy know what there doing the newer grizley 700 is one of the best 4x4 machines i think i havnt been able to test drive the 80 but iv'e heard good things. when i went to buy our trx 90 i looked at every quad and i wish i got the yahmaha grizley instead although the trx 90 is a great machine its kinda hard to handle and there's no front lights or taillights so we made a bracket and mounted it on it works great but its extra. and for my little brother who is nine he has problems controlling it and shifting so before you get anything always read and look up most information as possible so you know what you get.
