We coulden,t get our sportsman 400 to start, had fuel but didn't have any spark. After doing some checking of the of the coil and stator, they checked out ok with a ohm meter I found out if I disconnect the green wire that goes from one of the coils on the stator to the cdi box it starts and runs ok. When I plug the green wire back in it dies and won't start.Could the cdi box be bad? Any help would be appreciated.

Most likely you have a bad stator, however the stator could have done in the cdi box. It tends to be a rare occurance that the cdi box goes bad OR you could have a bad wire-- shorted to ground or rotted.
