Having trouble starting this old wheeler.. cleaned the carb in and out.. has spark. spray starting fluid directly into the carb and it wont fire at all.  Decompression valve is disengaged... It has some compression but I haven't tested it.  It coughed once or twice but that's it.. just one lousy PFFFFTTTTGHHHAAAAAAHHAAA.  I'm sick of pulling the pull start over.....!  Thanks!

well it could be an issue with compression, try putting a guage on it.

also it could be a fuel mixture issue.

mark where the fuel/air mixture screw is setting now, and how many turns out. then turn it all the way in.

it should be somewhere between 1-2 full turns out.

try it see if that helps.

starting fluid is ok, but not always best for your engine, it can sometimes cause damage to your engine.

yea I've adjusted the fuel mixture and right now it's missing the plunger for the choke so I think that could be part but I would think it would still fire with gas poured into the carb.  I've ordered the plunger and the only other thing I can think is that it's not getting enough spark... http://forums.atvrideronline.com/_siteconfigs/_global/images/community/bbcode/confused.gif

Also I was wondering if there was a chance of the timing chain for the cam to jump a link... I highly doubt it but one never know

it is possible for the timing to jump.

but if you are missing the plunger for the choke then normally it wont run.

i had a customer bring an old yamaha tri z to me with the choke plunger missing and it definately would run without it, even with starting fluid.

i purchased a new choke assy with plunger for the carb and it ran great!!!

if you are in the chattanooga tennessee area i have a few old atv carbs that just might work to replace your carb.

cool.  I ordered one so I hope that's it.  I also just got reminder of using a little oil in the cylinder to get compression back for a little bit.  I'm going to try that in the morning.

I'm in upstate NY so not too close to you thanks for the offer though.
