I hope someone out there can shed some light on a problem I'm having with my Suzuki Z-400.I was riding in the snow and started hearing a clicking/grinding noise coming from the left side of the bike. When the clutch is pulled in,the noise stops. The bike runs fine and clutch works fine.....any ideas?

does it do it in neutral?
or does it stop doing it only when you pull the clutch in?
it could be a bearing gone bad on the output shaft in your gearbox.

Yes it still does it in neutral. Is there a way for me to find out if that's what it is and fix it easily,or should I take it to a shop?Any idea how much they run?

different prices for different machines. your best bet is to take it to a shop. it can be done at home but if the bearing has to be pressed on you'll need a shop.
definately worth fixing.

Dude u might need to check and see how tight tha chain is also, cuz it could be dragging and eating the teeth off your front sprocket. usually you have to run the chain tight in the snow.

I have to say that iam baffled.
as i remember the ltz400 doesn't have electric start so the bendix shouldn't be locked into the flywheel, it runs and drives fine so they clutch basket has to be good, it does it in neutral so the cahin shouldn't be an issue.
HEY!!! check the chain roller, make sure it isn't worn or broken. the chain will ride against it and make a clicking noise if it's worn out or broken. but then it doesn't do it with the clutch pulled. hmm, check it anyway just to be safe.
does it do it sitting still? or only while in motion?

Actually it does have the push button start. The chain isn't an issue. The sound is definitely coming from the "engine area",not the chain. It does it in neutral sitting still, and while it's moving. The only time it stops is when the clutch is pulled in.It's not quite the same noise as a bad chain roller.I have a blaster that keeps happening to,so I know that sound.I'm so stumped! So any ideas are welcome.
