i have an 87 trx 250r that i just took out of storage and i am getting no spark. I found the wires from the on/off switch broke so i fixed them but i am still not getting any spark. it was in storage for about 2 yrs but it ran great before then. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I have a 1985 tecate 250 3 wheeler so I know about old 2 strokes and electrical problems. A couple things to start with are to check all your wiring for shorts. I replaced all my wiring with new wire I bought at a local hardware store. This is cheap and pretty easy. You should also pull the flywheel and visually inspect the stator for corrosion or broken wires. Also inspect the flywheel for damage to the magnets. I ended up replacing my flywheel, stator, coil, all wiring and CDI module before all the electrical problems were fixed. You can get new parts from rickys stator and plenty of used parts from ebay. Electrical problems can suck because the might go away and then return if you don't find every possible short.

you can test the coil by using an ohm meter.
put the red lead from the meter into the sprak plug cap and test across the wire(s) some have two wires coming out of the back and some have one.
place the black lead on the wire it should read between 14.2-15
test the other wire it should read the same. or if you only have one wire test the mounting bracket that it bolts to the frame, and the wire.
are you sure you got the switch wired back correctly?
also check the fuses, normally under the seat toward the back, there is a plastic or metal plate that bolts down and the fuses are under there on these models.

Check the ground wire, remove the screw and clean the frame and connector, also chase all of the wiring to make sure a mouse didn't get ya.

i had that problem once and the wires coming from the stater had a brake in it run a ohm meter from one end of the wire if u find one with no resistance probe down the wire until u get resistance and u found the brake also take the stater cover off and make sure the fly wheel is not rusted and check the spark pickup for rust and dirt aloso check the two wires coming from it for resistance
