Hi Everyone,

I'm not sure if any of you can provide some assistance. My dad had an ATV, I think the model listed above. He died May 2007 and it's not been even started more than 5-6 times in the past year. We're trying to help my mom and I need to know what I should look at to get this thing started. We've got fresh gas, and dry gas to help clear up the crap that's accumulated in it in the past months. The problem is that it's not starting. Where can I begin? We're going up there this weekend, so if there's anything you can suggest, I'll give it a shot.

Oh, and if it helps, she's upstate in NY, so there's a lot of moisture in the air, with all the snow and stuff...but the ATV has been in the garage.

Thank you in advance for any help!

first iam sorry to hear about your loss.

first thing to do is to remove the spark plug wire
and the spark plug.  put the spark into the plug wire cap and lay it against the metal of the engine.

turn the engine over and look to see if it is firing at the end of the spark plug.

if you are getting fire then you'll need to check the carburetor to see if it is clogged.

remove the carburetor and remove the screws on the bowl on the bottom.

the bowl will come off though you may have to tap it with the handle of your screwdriver on the side to get the gasket to let go.

look into the bowl to see if there is water or dirt in there. if so clean it out and use a wire bread tie with the plastic removed to clean out the jets.

then carefully remove the pin that holds the floats on, making sure not to lose the needle valve, it will fall out.

inspect the hole it came out of for trash or dirt.
and inspect the needle valve for buildup on it.

then inspect the floats for cracks or holes.

after you have everything cleaned out reinstall it all
and try starting the engine.

if you have problems after this let me know.
