Hey Wolf1, I have a 175 size jet in the carb. It is a 35mm. carb with a new LRD pipe. I just went to replace the rings and found that the pipe was full of oil. I was wondering if the jet size is the problem or if I have some other kind of problem with it. I think it is a 87, but I am not absolutely sure about the motor.

One more thing about the motor, I found that I have to replace the rod in it. It has a short rod. I heard that a 87 has a long rod in it. I don't know for sure but that is why I am questionable about the motor's make year.

definately need to know the year,
or tell me, is it a 2cycle or four cycle engine.

earlier models were 2 stroke in the 80's and later 4 cycle engines.

if it is a 2 cycle there are 3 reasons oil could get into the engine.

1) a busted piston skirt.

2) too much fuel allowing too much 2 cycle oil to enter the cylinder and end up in the exhaust.

although the second is least likely.

3) broken rings allowing excess oil to pull up into the cylinder and enter the exhaust.

if it is a 4 cycle engine
there are 4 ways oil could enter the exhaust.

1) bad valves or valve stem seals.

2) a broken piston skirt.

3) a cracked head.

4) cracked or broken rings.

It is definetly a 2-stroke 250r. Alright, I just found that it is a 87 motor. Could running a 32-1 mixture of gas and oil be the problem when the tank says to run a 20-1 mixture?

Hey Bro the 87- 89 has the longer rod vs 85, 86    The oil in your pipe is most likely residue from running a rich mixture. You will always have a certain amount of build up. What premix are you running?  I run the klotz R50 at 40 - 1,  The klotx bean oil gives superb protection but produces more residue - not a problem since the R motor is not a POWER VALVE motor. No matter what you will always have to clean the pipe and be sure to repack the silencer.

I am running a 32-1 premix ratio with castor 927. My LRD pipe is new, and when I bought it the guy gave me 3 jets. He gave me a 170, 175, and a 180 for the main jet. I have a 38mm keihin carb.

32:1 is standard for all atv/dirtbike 2 cycle engines.
i think the main problem is that you are running a large jet and a 35 mm carburetor.
work on tuning the fuel/air mixture.

mark where it is setting now, then in 1/4 turn increments make your adjustments to the fuel/air mixture screw.

turning it to the left will add more fuel to mixture, while turning it to the right will add more air into the mixture.

let it run for a few minutes between each 1/4 turn before making another.

if no luck with the needle setting as it is, then set the needle to a higher groove.

Hey man, thanks again for your time on one of my four wheelers. I really do appreciate it. I will try the fuel/air mixture screw and if it does not help, I will try back again. If I get it working good again, I will let you know.
