Ok a little about me.  I an experienced off-road motorcyclist raced many National Enduros, finished top three in my class for the state a few times, raced Hare Scrambles some motocross and a lot of trail riding. I’m 180lbs 5’10”.

So what turns me to the possibility of focusing on ATV’s Well I have 2 daughters that just turned ages 7 and 9.  They have had PW50s that they rode with tring wheels a few years back before we all took a 'break' but this last x-mas they got a Yamaha Raptor 80 atv and a CRF 70.  So after a few trips an a lot of back yard riding I am finding that they are more comfortable on the four wheeler.  Honestly I had hoped the other way around but the more I look at them on each I like them on the ATV better as well.   So it looks like the bike has to go and we are going to need another kids ATV and probably off Dad's KTM for an ATV also.  It is pretty important for me to have my recreation to be their recreation because I want my dollars & time spent on US, not me.  

So getting to the nitty gritty...  which ATV should I consider for a second one to the stable.  Both my girls are 65lbs or so and I feel are quite capable little ATV riders.  They stand in a nice crouch when riding the rough stuff and have the lean to the inside on corners, operate the throttle and brakes with good control.   I figure I have to stay in the 80 or 90 cc range (12yr old and older ...ummn not!) just to appear somewhat legal and I can see us doing some localized youth XC racing  in the future say 12 months or so.  Is the 80/90 cc rule for only 12yr older enforced at the events?  

Other half of the equation have any others out there been in a similar situation and how has it worked for you?  Bike to ATV switch

For me I am confused on what quad to get.  Use case will be of course being lead or sweep riding trail with my girls and maybe if I’m fortunate a XC race in whatever class makes sense for whatever I’m riding.  I was considering a ATV equal to or greater than 450 cc, but I'm not sure if I should go with the moto straight axel ATV or a 4x4 CVT trans  or something in between like an outlaw or Raptor?     Suggestions and bang for the buck and used model are probably where I would head instead of the MY09 models.
