I'm in the market for a new set of tires for my Vinson. I've been seriously considering a set of Mudlites. I want a 6 ply, but don't want a major weight gain, as I've added skid plates, winch, etc, and lean more towards sport riding. I'd like to know if anyone has had any luck, good, or bad, with these tires. I need an "all-arounder" set of tires. If there is a better choice for; mainly woods riding-hills, trails, hardpack, loam, and mud, occasional sand riding, and a lot of technical creek riding, please give me your opinion(s).

Thanks, in advance.

Hay 4X!

I've got a set of Kenda Bear Claws on my 650 Prairie. They've been everywhere. I like them a lot. I think the Mudlites by ITP are their copy of the Bear Claws. So compare price.  You might look at a tire by Maxxis called 'Big Horn' I think it is the same tire that Mike Penland uses for the GNCC. They list it available in a radial, 25x8x12 for the front and 25x10x12 for the rear. ITP makes another Radial tire called Holeshot ATR I've heard good things about it. One thing for sure, go with a 6 ply and you can't go wrong.

Prairie 650?!! When did that happen? I thought you were on the Lacota. I've had plenty of saddle time on a Prairie....... sweet ride! Anyway: I've found 25/10/12's and 8's for $53 and $48, free shipping, respectively. What did you give, if you don't mind me asking, for the Kendas? I ripped a pencil-sized hole-unpatchable, it now sports an "in-patch" and tube-a couple of weeks ago riding down at Unionville, in the rear throttle side. I haven't had any more trouble out of it, but defintely want a new set before we go to W. Virginia. Thank God for carrying a plug kit and slime, or I'd have been walking out, as it went from 0-flat in 6.1 sec.s! Are the Kendas heavier than the ITP's? I really trust the ITP brand, as I ran a set of Holeshots on my Tri-Z back in the late 80's, and was very happy with their performance.

I 've read the back issues of our favorite magazine and shopped around-extensively. I like the looks of the Big Horns, but not the price. As for the Holeshot radials; I haven't read anything. I wonder if they'd cover the wide range of riding conditions we experience here in the Mid-South. And price, on both, is still a concern.

We need to hook up for a ride, prior to the R.R., as I'm in your "neighborhood" on a very regular basis! And, judging from your other nick name-Traveling W.-you aren't above a short road-trip!

Thanks for the info Nthewind!

You're not going to believe this but, when I bought the machine I worked with the dealer on the wheels and tires. ITP 'C' series wheels, Bear Claws on the machine when I picked it up $550.

Yes we need together.

4Xfloored,

Have 27" Mudlites mounted on my wife's '03 Vinson Auto.  She has 27x10x12 up front, and 27x12x12 on the back.  They handle and ride very well.  However, they did steal alot of the Vinson's get up and go.  Installed a full EPI clutch kit (weights, springs, etc) and it gave it back the stock acceleration.  Mudlites are lighter than Bearclaws.  Personnally, I would go w/ 26" Mudlites.  I think the 27" tires sit the Vinson too high and make it tippy.  I have 26" Mudlites on my '03 Prairie 650 and prefer the handling of the 26" tires to the 27" tires.  I paid $280 for the 26" Mudlites mounted on stock rims.  Have a good one!
