Question for Bryan Nylander....

Bryan, just read your article "Get involved! Now!"

First off, I think it was great. Great in the fact that is needed to get the word out and educate us.  On the downside, I'm dissapointed that it wasn't a bigger, flashier piece. I feel some people will glaze right over the article.

Thus, here in lies my question.  Is the this mandate only for "existing" riding spaces? Or does this appy to forest that we are not even allowed in as of yet?

The reason I ask this, is for the simple that right near my house is this place.

Not many miles at all of riding. I actually mountain bike there, but some of the trails allow dirtbikes and snowmobiles, yet no atvs.  Is this a place that could fall under your article?

Masschusetts is a tough place to find open riding spaces. They closed a favorite park amongst us atv riders last year.  Currently we have 5 OHV friendly (I use that loosely) parks.  2 are very small (under 10 miles) The other 3 are great and can be a good amount of fun. The state is currently reviewing these spaces and may close more.  We're trying to do our part through work parties with the states clubs.  One of which I invite you and the other editors too.

www.northeastatvers.com   We're pretty unique and lots of fun. I invite you and the other editor to join us next season for a ride.

Keep up the great work.

John,

Glad you liked my column. Not much of an article but more the privilige I get as editor to get on my soapbox and rant or rave about something every issue.

So for your inquiry on what applies. At the moment it is Forests - that is land managed or administered by the US Forest Service. They are trying to figure out what the usage is and map the existing trails. This is the crucial part. If a trail, road or path doesn't get on the map of that land, then it will be rendered illegal and closed. So my challenge was to everyone to get off the couch and be involved now while we still have a voice and a chance to make a difference.

The NOHVCC www.nohvcc.org is a good source of how to get involved and what needs to be done. I think your gem falls outside of the scope of this project. And it applies only to currently open trails/Forest Land.

Thanks for your interest and the B's might be able to come to NE to ride in the next year.

First off, again thanks for getting back to me. I find it incredible that the editors to a magazine take the time to answer us.  I'm reading up on the NOHVCC website as I type (well I was reading and will go back after this message).

And if you guys could make it out for a ride we'd make it worthwhile!

Stop, you're embarassing me. I have to reply back once in a while - after all this is part of my magazine, a great way to communicate with the readers and learn what makes them tick.

We'll probably be heading your direction next year - I'm pretty booked through about March at the moment. Yeah, it is weird planning events 6 months from now.

Not a problem, as we'd have to set something up no earlier in May. The state parks close to atv/dirtbike use and area open to snowmobiles through the winter. The first weekend in may is when the parks open back up to us!

Sounds like we have a plan for another road trip next year... what's the name of the ride spot?\
