go with the machine that best fits ur son size wise. by brand im a polaris man all the way. i ride a sportsman 800 and have a 700 raptor, my wife rides a sportman 500, my older son rides a trailblazer 250 2 stroke and my daughter rides a 330 trailblazer and i just bought a 330 trailboss. polaris makes good machines. DO YOUR SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE, and they will never leave u on the trail.

rbond: yes the exhaust getting red is normal, it is more noticeable at night.
polaris, you could count on scheduled maintenance if more of their machines would make it long enough to get scheduled maintenance.
i couldn't tell you how many polaris atv's showed up with defects the first 2 weeks of ownership.
If people would just do a search on aqtv recalls and read the ones for polaris they would have never purchased a polaris at all.
http://www.atvsafety.gov/atvrecalls.html
polaris: 16 recalls since 1999, and alot of them on current models
Yamaha: 4 recalls since 1999, None of them current No recalls since 2005
Honda 9 recalls since 1999
Keep it RUBBER SIDE DOWN!!

this sounds like a ford vs chevy truck battle in here LOL i have a polaris 2 stroke its a 1994 300 and let me say that i have beat this machine up real bad i have driven it after a weeks worth of rain on logging trails through cricks and up them on the snow mobile trails in the winter rolled it twice and i am still driving it was actually looking on here to find out what evey one thought about a trailblazer 250 1998 or a 1986 lt 230 suzuki they want the same price but know that fixing a 2 stroke motor is usually a little easier and cheaper not realy looking for speed as it would be for the wife and she cant do a clutch but i believe the 230 is a semi i think she could handle that or just drive the other but wanted just a 2 wheel drive for the 2nd atv. it is like anything some people hate fords say they are junk because they have had issues and others hate chevy its a crap shoot research the model choices and see what issues people are having i baught a van knowing it had a notorious transmission issue and at 120000 miles it went while others it went at 40000 so do the research and learn how to fix your own machines. I hope some of this helps.

I have said it here before and I will say it again,as my name says, POLARIS ALL THE WAY. Bring whatever you ride and my 07 polaris sportsman 800 will out run your *** on any trail in the woods. Sink it, flip it, stick it, pull it out flip it over and still goes, I had a yam junk grizz and it lasted 2 weekends on the trial and I sold that junk. Control arms bent, skid plates fell off power steering was junk, you name it on that grizz and it was junk. Polaris sportsman still goin strong aint broke a thing, no recalls like wolfe says. Think about this, Polaris the only ATV manufacture to turn a profit last year. All others lost money, WHY??????????? Installing parts under warrenty work, lack of sales, selling junk machines.

Hey
I got my nephew a grizzly, he is 11. I got it for him last year and it has proved to be great for his size. Only thing is make sure he can ride well if hes young they got a little power behind them. Haven't had him on a Yamaha, but they are quality made I hear. Good Luck in your choice!

it was only on the 4x4 that they used plastic . like 90 to 97 i think . not sure on the years . and as for the polaris the only reason they are a head in salles is there parts are so high . and to the 800 sportman you must have a lot of work in that thing . i got a 2000 600 grizzly and i riped the finders off an 800 sportsman in a drag 4 weeks ago . he aint said anything about raceing them again .
