2005 is here and we need to start organizing the '05 Reader Ride. A lot has already been done (thanks David Wilmot). Read on to see where we need help:
The Mar. issue is out and the H/M ride is one of the features. Ink was applied to our ride (no, I'm not rappin'). Improvements? DW put on a great event! No doubt about it. But, "great" leaves room for improvement. This is where you guys come in. Let's hear some ideas. Like life, there are no guarantees. Submitted ideas will be considered, but don't bank on your idea-no matter how good ( no complimentary strippers/chip-n-dales(sp?) unless they ride-w/ proper apparel)...being applied. We'll take a "collective" poll, then see what floats to the top. A lot of people were wanting commemorative type shirts. In the works, but it might cost a little (hey, nothing in life is free. You guys know that!). How about a Poker Run with a some decent prizes? Anyone? Do you see where this is going. Submit your ideas! Spread the word, and refer 'em to this site/thread.
Check out David's and Len's pics form the ride here: http://www.motocom.com/gallery/album02?page=1
Yea, the ride didn't get enough coverage in print. More riders = more coverage. ATVR has always encouraged rider input-give us some.
We made a ton of friends on this ride and the camaraderie was second to none. "Banshee Boys"-you coming? Tighten the nuts before "horse playin'"! Larry, Skinny-Do a pre-road trip vehicle check, then prepare to rip (you guys can RIDE!)! Steve, Donna- you guys can rip! Keep representing! Dave and Kim- The 29 year honeymoon calls ( if my wife could see some footage of your smiles, she might insist on one of those 2-uppers)! The names go on and on. All that attended last year, please return-w/ friends. Those that thought about coming-come! And those of you that are just reading about it-You are MORE than welcomed.
Clubbers-DW already promised a special section for clubs that attend the ride. What excuse do you guys have for not attending? BRING IT!
If you read the article (or pass it on) reference the e-mail addys in the yellow box on pg. 59 (ATVR Mar. 05). Let us know if you plan on attending. Our goal is to make this ride "pro-creative', if ya know what I mean.
Please, any suggestions you ( or friends) have, please post 'em here, as this message board could use a serious boost of adrenaline! Or, if you are shy, send suggestions, via e-mail, to the afore mentioned addys. Please-send the hate mail to Osama at Osama-u-suck.com!
Thanks to all who made the last ride a success!
I look forward to hearing from "y'all"
Brad Sorry about all of the edits the link doesn't want to cooperate!, and sorry DW! If you click on the ATVR Reader Ride link at the top of Len's page-you'll get both sets.

we feel a poker run would be one of the ways to go and should be enjoyable to everyone attending.
t- shirts would be very cool!!!!!!!! and hope we could get more than 2"unlimited"
we are looking forward to oct....... 26-30th right???????
we recently joined a local motorcycle club.... mostly trials and motorcrossers.....but alot of them have 4 wheelers that we are trying to talk into coming for the reader ride.
anyway keep in touch about the 2005 ride!!!!!!!

Steve and Donna-
You guys are the kind of riders that make this thing a success! We'll keep things posted up here, as they unfold. Like I said before, think about things that would make the ride(s) more enjoyable and post 'em. The shirts are def. happening, as I've pretty much finished the concept, I've just got to get a few loose ends sewn up. I think the poker run is a go also. Insiders tell me that prizes are do-able. What kind of stuff(prizes) would you guys like to see? Be realistic: i.e. a new quad is kinda "outta the question", and keep in mind, the prizes would have to be universal. We wouldn't want to give a YFZ pipe to a Foreman rider, etc. Anyway, thanks for your enthusiasm, and may it become infectious!

ANOTHER IDEA WE WERE THINKING ABOUT WAS
1 ST PLACE>>>HELMET COMMUNICATORS
2 ND PLACE>>> ATV AXILLARY LIGHT SET
3 RD>>> OVER THE FUEL TANK BAG
ETC ETC.......
THESE ARE SOME OF THE ITEMS THAT COULD BE GIVEN RELATED TO ATVS. MAYBE EVEN HATFIELD MCCOY YEARLY PASSES.
NOW... WE ARE WONDERING WHO KNOWS ABOUT HELMET TO HELMET WALKIES??? WHATS GOOD, WHATS NOT... THE ONES WE HAVE FOUND.. WE FEEL ARE KIND OF EXPENSIVE.. DO YOU NEED TO BUY 2 SETS?? CUZ THAT COULD BE AROUND 500.00 WHEN GETTING 2.

Now we're getting somewhere. I doubt Primedia would go for the $. As for the communicators: I have no experience w/ 'em, but I'll check that out. Got any model #'s?

Prizes sound great. The helmet to helmet comms' are alittle pricey. We have the "ChatterBox" brand. They work very well everywhere we have been to ride. Even getting a deal we spent around $300.00 per unit. We have never had a regret though it makes the ride much more enjoyable being able to point things out during the ride. Not to mention alert others of anything dangerous on the trail. We had ours during the "Readers-Ride" and had fun yelling "I'M HIT" everytime Donnas quad "shot" at me going down some of those hills. I'll quit rambling. In short if you can get them they're great.

Check Ebay. I have seen units on there new and used. There are a couple of cheaper units made by Chatterbox. Most of the difference is thier range.
See you guys on the next ride...

Sorry about not getting back sooner. About these communicators. Do they work the same as the newer walkie-talkies? What I mean is, can more than 2 be on the same freq.?
On the Ride front. I'm working on the shwag. David has the itinerary together, and we'll be forwarding it to you "vets" that we have e-mail addys for. S&D-Did you guys change your addy, or do I have the right one? Those of you that we don't have, either check here (we'll post it soon) or contact David or myself @ the e-mail addys that were printed in the article.
Chad-the ol' Brute holding up for ya?

ATV RIDER READER’S RIDE 2005 Itinerary
THURSDAY OCTOBER 27
Hotel check-in. Get checked in your room then check out the place. I think you'll be as impressed as I was. In one of the conference rooms we're going to have vendors and in another we're going to set up a ‘war room' . This is the central location where you can get all the information about the rides and register. Buy an official ATV RIDER event T shirt and you'll be eligible for some special ‘freebies'. Hatfield-McCoy trail permits will be available at the discount price of $30.00 for a 4 day permit. Plan on having dinner at the excellent Twin Falls Restaurant. After dinner we'll be gathering somewhere for some serious ‘arm chair riding‘!
Friday October 28
Today's ride will start in the town of Pineville. You will need a Hatfield-McCoy trail permit and a wristband (both can be bought at the Twin Falls Resort) the cost for the wristband is $20.00. This is for the parade, guide services for the day and lunch. Robert Bailey, owner of Happy Trails ATV will be providing the services for today's ride. 8:30-9:30 Line up on Main street in the beautiful, friendly town of Pineville. Parking is available near downtown at the Jr. High School or you can park at the Pinnacle Creek Trail Head (Castle Rock Trail head) and ride to town.. 9:30-10:00 Group pictures on Main Street. 10:00 Police escort out of town to the Castle Rock Trail head. 10:30 Groups and guides get together for today's ride on the Pinnacle Creek trail. Time ? Meet back at the Twin Falls Resort for some serious discussion about today's ride.
Saturday October 29
Today is going to be sort of a ‘plan your own day'. We have asked all the guide services back from last year to sent up rides. Most of these are going to be prepackaged'. The guide services will post the time and place, type of trails, experience level expected. and pace. If you and your buddies want to have a guided ride with just your group, that can be arranged also. There is also going to be a ‘Ride with the Editors' ride. This is for experienced fools that think that a day with AVTR'S editors would be a good time. The cost for these rides will be set by the individual guide service. All this information will be posted in the ‘War room' at the Twin Falls Resort. Meet back at the Twin Falls Resort to discuss who have the most fun today!
Sunday October 30
The suggestion of a Poker Run for this year was from input from last years participants. Not being satisfied with just any old Poker Run. We're going to put on a Poker Run with a little twist, we're not going to tell you where to get the cards! My devious mind is still working on the details, but I guess I'll have to tell you this much. It will be held on the Pinnacle Creek trail, sign up either the night before at the twin Falls Resort, or between 9:00-10:00 at the Castle Rock trail head. The Run will start promptly at 10:00 and end at the trail head at 3:00 The cost is $20.00.
Thank You for the success of last years event! We hope this event is going to be better!

Overall, the itinerary is set. Being that this is Feb. there is plenty of time to add/modify. Len wrote the story (I thoght it was an excellent read) and used his photo set. I would liked to have seen some of David's pic.s too, but wasn't involved in the selection. David picked the first set of "awards" and the Ed. picked the others. David had a conversation w/ one of the "higher-ups" at p-media and got an enthusiastic response. They want our "little" ride to keep growing, even trying to get some bigger vendors involved. Like you, we feel this thing is going to be a LOT bigger this year-and beyond. As more and more people attend, the pages devoted will have to expand. Contact David on the sponsor (dealers) participation. I'm working on sponsor participation on the magazine end. We are really pushing to get clubs involved. I've sent the itinerary to numerous groups. One thing that appears to be looming on the horizon is the lodge being sold-out quickly. I don't know if that's a bad thing though!

Steve and Donna:
Thanks for all the kinds words. Yes, I wondered why none of my pictures made it too. Either Len or I have nothing to do with the selection of the pictures they use. One thing I'm going to insist on this year is more pictures of the people that come out to the event.
I thought that Len did an EXCELLENT job with the story. I wrote everything in the blue box (with some slight changes from ed.) and even though it said 'editors choices' those were all mine.
I really can't answer the question you asked about prizes and space in the magazine. I'm not sure what you are asking. I can tell you that we have use of all the conference rooms and I am looking for vendors, clubs to set up. I don't think I would work for a dealer to come all the way from Pa. to set up.
Glad that you're coming again. BTY Brad, they are not staying at the resort. They got a HUGE room with a tub surrounded with mirrors. Just the place for newly weds!
Later,
DW
