We do some ridding in norther NY and their is a few places were we ride the roads to connect trail head to trail head but these roads are posted for ATV use. We all stay in a line when ridding in a group and drive with in the limted post on the roads as far as speed but their is alway a few out their that just go wild and then they lose what we all have and belive me here in NY we don't have a lot when it comes to places to ride a ATV

not for very long around here, it's basically get on the road and get off as quick as possible.

the police here don't like it much, but they are just doing their job.

It sucks when the real cops come tho, but we just go into the woods were there cars cant fit. i'll tell ya what take ur quad 4 a ride down to the pool or something if its as loud and as fast as my cousins that i ride (2005 blaster w/240 big bore kit, dg full system, 34mm carburater, +2 a-arms and custom painted, and anything else theres WAYYY to much to list) man, u gotta beat the ladies down with a freakin stick its crazy hahaha or my friends yfz450 that he races

I do when I'm at the country because the road is between property and lake. Shouldn't its actually called a highway, although it looks more like alleyway on steriods adn lees like a road. But it is the country n not unheard of either.
To those who do in the city, I would have to agree with others who said it too. Your only hurting all of us by getting more bans by those who dont understand and are scared of ATV's already.

my prowler sxs is licenced and insured for street use here in arizona, all required is horn, rear veiw mirror, light over the licence plate, and proof of insurance. DOT tires are not required, no inspection required, just go to the dmv with title and tell them you want a street licence, depending what part of arizona you live in, you could need a smog cert.  i didn't and took maybe at most 15 minutes to resister it for the street

My 05' Kawasaki KFX700, 00' Yamaha Kodiak are licenced and insured for street use here in Montana, all tht we need to have is a horn, lights, mirror, plate, to be street legal.
I ride the KFX700 to work most of the time...
It is the riders that arn't legal, and doing stunts, and such that are making it hard in the rest of us...
I could licence the kids Outlaw 90's if I wanted to ..
A little scary seeing two 9 year olds cruising down the highway though.

Not in LA or OC county, California. They will nab you quick. And if you are in Ingelwood, they may shoot first, then say "he tried to run"
Besides, doesn't become very hard to handle on pavement?

I have asked a NC state trooper who I have rode with about making an ATV street legal. His response was that if it had lights, blinkers and DOT tires and was properly licensed and insured that he didn't see why not. It was his opinion at the time but I never looked into it>

actually they aren't too hard to handle on the pavement.
they grip a little better so once you allow for it you are good.

Hi! I live in Fargo, ND.  Now Fargo has about 200,000 people in the tri-city area, so not completely rural.  There is a state law that allows for ATVs to ride on any street that is not posted over 55 mph. You have to have over 350cc, headlight, speedometer, turging signals, and liablity insurance.  We have contacted our local police dept and asked what, if there are any, city ordinances that negate the state law. There are not. We are allowed to ride city streets!  We have just installed our turning signals and are looking to put more of a DOT tire on our Polaris 600 Sportsman. We own a cabinetshop and I have to run errands all the time and with gas prices so high...well it would be nice to hop on the ATV! So starting soon, you will see me out there! It will be interesting to see what the response is!  Althought the police department has stated there in no ordinace yet against ATV riding in town, they are looking into it. We have asked to be part of those meetings.  We feel riding an ATV is much safer than the scooters that you see everywhere that have such small tires and small engines!

We also are part of a company that makes after-market widening and lowering kits for sport ATVs.  {We have other specialized kits too.} One kit we will be working on next is to take Honda CRX (the car) tires and use a special wheelspacer/bolt pattern adapter on the Sportsman. That way we could use cheap car tires on the Sportsman for city streets and save our utility tires for the trails.
Hopefully the next time I post won't be from jail for riding my ATV in town.  We think that with gas prices such as they are - this is a wonderful opportunity to use our ATV for more than trial riding.  We would all have to remember to drive more like we are driving a car and not climbing a mountain!!!
