hello out there,
I have recently purchased a home that has not been lived in for 15 years, needs a ton of work but it is on the water. I am seeking some advice on purchasing an ATV to help me clean up the clutter, pull some downed tree limbs up to the yard and other heavy items from around the water bank. The grade is steep and long getting to the water but levels out several foot away from the wet stuff. I will be pulling a concrete mixer, sand, gravel etc down to the bank to pour footings for a deck etc. I have no experience in the ATV field and would appreciate some advice on an ATV to look for that would suit these needs. It will probably never leave the property as I have a motorcycle for pleasure use. I'm interested in what you guys would recommend, I think I need 4 wheel drive for the terrain, a wench ( sorry winch, already got the wench !!  , ball hitch, and am looking for recommendations for engine displacement, transmission, manufacturer of a very dependable unit that supports their equipment, and whatever else you guys, and girls, can recommend. I do not need a new unit in my opinion due to the limited use it will see on the property so I am looking for a clean, used ATV but dont know what to look for at this point. I also dont feel I need a unit with a carrier in the back ( like a truck bed ) because the area is going to be difficult to manuver around in until I get an access path cut in down to the water.
Any help would be appreciated, ride it like ya stole it !!
Thanks,
Jim

A Honda Foreman would be my first choice, A Kawasaki 300 Bayou 4x4 would be second, because of the dual range transmission, and they are resonably priced used. The old Honda 300's 4x4 are bullet proof, but most of them I've seen used, are used up. Let me know what decide.

Thanks for the info, I will start looking in the papers for the Honda. I'm temporarly in Central New York and am trying to find a deal as the winter gets closer.
Did you recommend the Honda because of your personal experience?
Is one brand, Honda, Kaw, Yahama, etc. better overall or are they all good, just some better than another in a specific situation?
There are more Honda's for sale than the Kaw's around here, I've been trying to put a range together, year vs. dollar value but the prices are all over the place it seems.
I would like to be able to pull a utility trailer with sand, gravel, etc, and a cement mixer down a pretty steep grade, do you think that would be a problem? I have ruled out a 2 wheel drive for that purpose feeling a 4 wheel would do better on the slope.
I appreciate your help. Thanks.
