Hey guys anybody out there got an idea on how to adjust the shifting on my expedition? It has become super harfd to shift between gears. It seems to work ok until it gets hot, which happens pretty quick when I use the machine to plow snow. I am wondering if when I changed the oil the other day and the parts guy gave me polaris vt oil. It is not the usual 0w 40 I used to get from them. Any way it seems like the tranny needs some adjustment and thoughts?? Thanks

it could very well be that you have the wrong fluid in it and it is overheating. although polaris likes to tell you that the pvt oil will work in any of them, it actually wont.
I have had customers bring their atv to me to repair the tranny after taking the dealers advice and putting the pvt oil in it.
the pvt tranny is the only tranny that stuff is made for. change it out before it does damage if it hasn't already.

Hello Wolf, Thank you for your help and thoughts. I believe you are correct. When I check the oil it is foaming after running it. The tranny gets really hot after plowing snow for 30 minutes. Today I ran it and it shifts great while it is cold no problem. I am going to another dealer to buy regular 0w 40 and a new filter. It his does not correct the problem is there some adjustment that needs to be made to this manual 5 speed?? Thanks again Wolf1.

Glad to help!!
it should correct the problem the only thing you would have to worry about is if there is any lasting damage from using the wrong fluid.
be sure to get all of the pvt fluid out, buy extra fluid and run some through it to help wash out the pvt junk.
if you run into any other problems with the tranny after you drain and flush and get the right fluid in it let me know and we can try to figure the problem from there.
it sounds like the pvt fluid is overheating the unit causing it to bind. change the fluid and you may be alright.

I changed the engine/tranny fluid in the atv and the filter. I put 3 quarts of Amsoil 0W 40 and ran it for a ten minutes. Then I drained it out and refilled with Amsoil 0W 40. Shifts like butter. Still has a little problem when I shift out of reverse some times when i pull up on the foot lever it goes by neutral and into 1st gear. No big deal. The tranny after 30 minutes gets so hot you can not comfortably touch it but maybe that is normal. I am wondering if the fan is not kicking in so I am going to find some way to test the fan and be certain it is working and kicking on properly. Thanks again Wolf1. Anybody know where you can get service manuals for these atvs??
