how many children do you know stay away from mud and water anyway? mine you can't keep away from mud and water when they are riding.
it's like a powerful magnet to them they have to go through it at least a dozen times.

Hi BobJava:
As for the housing I ran a small bead of RVT sealant along the edge of the housing. It will not be 100%, but will reduce the points of entry for the water and dirt. For the "snorkle", I took 2 layers of cheese cloth and sprayed my K&N filter oil on the cloth. Then wrapped it with a paper towel to remove any excess, left enough to grad some dust. Placed the cloth over the snorkle and tied it with a zip tie. The oil should help keep some of the water from coming in thru the snorkle, but still give ventilation.
Seems to work, for now anyway...............Thanx

I have the same problem with my daughters polaris sportsman 90. it idles fine but giving it gas causes it to stall. I have changed the spark plug and checked everything I know. Could this be a sign the stator is bad ? I thought it wont run at all if the stator is bad. It was running great till now. It starts right up and idles fine but wont take any throttle without stalling. Seems to be a common problem but I havent found a solid answer. Any help would be appreciated. I guess this is what I get for buying a used ATV ..

a stator can be going bad and still work just not as well. yuou can have a bobbin that is weakening and not give as much electricity for the needed amount of spark for the spark plug. sometimes it will still run a while until the bobbin goes out completely.
as well the stator could have some rust or dirt on it's contact surface and not work as well.
check it, see if there is dirt. clean it if there is. check to see if there is rust on the magneto or the pick-up contact. if so use a fine grit sand paper and remove the rust carefully.

yeah polaris has many of their atv's designed so that they get water on the stator.
it's a poor design but iam guessing it allows polaris to wiggle out from under the cost of having to replace them under warranty, due to this serious design flaw.
Afterall how many kids or adults do you know actually avoid getting their atv in water, sand or dirt?
it's par for the course, polaris says they are american made, but they are also co-owned by fuji heavy industries. and we know that the predator 90cc was made in taiwan.

From everyones simptoms it sounds like the carbs need to be checked. NOT THE STATOR. I would recommend taking the carb off and giving it a good cleaning/Adj. Sometimes the great gas we get from the middle east just seems to leave a residue on the parts inside your carbs and restricts the flow of fuel. You may want to play around with the air/fuel screw to.

On the smaller cc units more times than not it is a carb issue although there are exceptions. As for being made in Asia be careful what you are bashing there are a lot of oem compinents sourced there, not only in powersports but that includes the auto industry as well like the old saying ignorance is bliss.

Hi. I have a small engine repair shop and have been working on atv's. I have the same problem with a polaris 90. It idles fine , doesn't seem to have any other noticeable problems , until you give it the gas and then it's a poppin and backfirin like the "timing is off". I don't know that much about this quad, but you say its the 'stator'. Is that like the Ignition Box , CD , Ignition Module??? Thanks for any help. Mark

Hello Mark:
The stator is located on the right side of the quad and is behind the black cover with the snorkle. The stator simply generates the electricity....Thanx
